7 of our book.
Aim
To make fire using sunlight. To test if it's easier to burn dark coloured
paper.
Method
Use black and red felt tipped markers to make black and red paper. Allow
to fully dry.
Use a magnifying glass to try to set fire to a piece of paper.
Safety note: The focussed dot of light produced by a magnifying
glass is very intense. Use sunglasses, squint, and avoid looking directly
at the spot.
Materials & Equipment
- Paper.
- Red and black felt tipped markers.
- Magnifying glass.
- Sunglasses.
Results/Observations
Not everyone was able to get their samples to burn.
Everyone found the black paper started to smolder more easily than the
red paper, which smoldered more easily than the white paper.
The black paper normally ignited.
Conclusion
- On average, black paper is easier to light than red paper and white paper.
- On average, red paper is easier to light than white paper.
